On October 22, 1999 STARGUIDE was launched on Darren Sumner personal web space. By the next year STARGUIDE moved to SciFiGuide.net where other series were covered such as Farscape, Babylon 5, Andromeda, and Star Trek. With a vision for the future, a Stargate centered site was launched called GateWorld.net and STARGUIDE was reduced to episode guides.

Over the years GateWorld has grown into a extremely popular and well respected Stargate website. In 2003 David Read joined GateWorld as co-editor. Thank you Darren Sumner and David Read for everything! For more information on GateWorld's history go to http://www.gateworld.net/site_history.shtml

There is a thread at http://forum.gateworld.net/threads/77518-Happy-11th-Birthday-Gateworld where you can leave birthday wishes.

This was originally a response that I wrote to someone that said that I wasn't a "real" Stargate SG-1 fan because my favorite character and favorite fanish paring wasn't the same as theirs and that you have to pick one Stargate show (SG1, SGA, or SGU) and hate the others to be a true fan.  After I wrote this I remembered that debating with someone with that mentality is a waste of time.  Recently, I was writing a comment about why I like Sam Carter and remembered this so I beta'ed myself (can you do that?) and here it is.

True Stargate Fan?

I started watching Stargate SG-1 because I like realistic, futuristic, space operas (Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5).  I stayed for Sam Carter.  I am a woman who worked for the Navy as an engineer/computer programmer.  I was an overachiever in school.  If I had a choice I would be tall, thin, and blond.  Oh, and I am an instructor at self-defense, martial arts, and weapons (4th degree black belt in TaeKwonDo - KumDo) and a crack shot with a gun.  Sam was the closest any TV/movie character came to someone I could identify with.  I know I can't really be Sam Carter but it is more likely than Spiderman (woman, scared of spiders, scared of heights, allergic to spandex).

I was never fanatical about Stargate Atlantis.  I would sometimes watch because it was on right after SG-1 but never just sat down to watch it unless it was a crossover episode.  That was until Sam took over Atlantis.

I also really like Stargate Universe.  I know that the over zealous militant Stargate fans seem to think that you need to pick just one Stargate show but I would challenge anyone that says that I can’t be fanatical über Stargate SG-1 fan and also like SGU.  I read a ridiculous amount of fanfic to the point that when I find something that isn't new that I haven't read it is a shock.  I am your go to girl if you are looking for ANY SG-1 fic or author.  I have beta'ed for more that 25 authors and in most cases repeatedly.  I attend two Stargate Cons per year (Creation Vancouver and Chicago) and used to go to the New Jersey Stargate Creation Con before it was discontinued.  I go to other Cons as per what Stargate actor is going to be there.  I didn’t realize how many Stargate shirts I owned until recently when I was packing for a Stargate Con and I asked my daughter to grab all my Stargate shirts so I could choose.  There was over two dozen.  I have copies of all the scripts/transcripts from the MGM website (they have since taken them down) that took me a week to download.  I own all of the DVDs, audio dramas, and most of the books (can't get some because they are out of print).  I even own a bunch of the comic books.  I bid on the prop auctions (but I unfortunately don't have a big enough budget to win).  I promote, inform, blog, support, write articles, do research, etc on Stargate and any Stargate info I come across I distribute (usually I pass it to morjana and/or GateWorld).

So, yea, I'm not a real fan.

Amanda Tapping hosted 2 days of the Team Welcoming Cermony.  Amanda Tapping is Sam Carter on Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe and Helen Magnus on Sanctuary.  Ingrid Kavelaars hosted day 3 and played Major Erin Gant on Stargate SG-1.

"We have Amanda Tapping for 2 days which is awesome! She is from Vancouver and best known for her role on Stargate. I didn't watch the show so I don't know who she was, however, it's got quite a cult following. She's even hosted the Gemini awards..and for my American friends, that's the equivalent to your Emmy's I suppose. I am dealing with her directly and she is a joy to work with."

"I am officially a fan of Amanda Tapping now. In fact, there's about a dozen of us who have girl crushes on her. She's fantastic! and today, HER friend Ingrid Kavelaars is hosting for us. She's hot and awesome! I met her last night at the gate when our driver picked her up at the airport and we hung out and had a brief rehearsal and then I drove her to her hotel. She hugged me goodbye. She's adorable. She's on "V" which I've only seen once, and she used to be on "Whistler" and she's a Genie award winner too."

If anyone has a better video clip or photos, let me know. Has anyone spotted any other Stargate or Sanctuary people at the Olympics?
